Madras Institute of Magnetobiology
Registered in Mar’84 as a Scientific Society under TN Societies Registration Act’75, the Institute’s overall administrative control rests upon its Director with each of its associated group activities (Programs) brought under a specialist in charge. The governing and advisory body of the Institute is by a management committee, its honorary members drawn from experts of varied specialties as also philanthropists, social workers and eminent personnel who have occupied important portfolios in the State or Centre related to administration, academics, research, legal, law enforcement and social welfare.
Each program has its research agenda and goals that are planned, monitored and executed through a team which draws upon the collective wisdom of experts available in the management committee and from specialists who form the core of the Institute’s research advisory council. Madras Institute of Magnetobiology’s technical and scientific support finds basis from EHC (Environment Health Criteria)monographs, which serve as a guiding principle for its research activities.
With research impetus on the rise in this emerging discipline of Magnetobiology, scientists were facing difficulties in disseminating their findings due to the total absence of a journal covering this new area of science in India. Felt compelled, between 1988 to 2000, the Institute ran a journal titled “Bioelectromagnetics and Biomedicine” to publish scientific articles and report research results in this subject. To further help the cause, the Institute has been conducting periodically a National level symposium on the subject since 1988. In recognition of the Institute's efforts to make available an extensive body of organized scientific information on Pulsed Magnetic Field (PMF) related research, recognition has been accorded by SEMCE(I) - Society of Electromagnetic Compatibility (India), a world accreditation body governing Electromagnetic Research under IEEE.
Since inception the Institute has been backed by its patrons, members and donors who continue to provide necessary support for its development and sustainment. To facilitate such support, the Institute is also registered under section 12(A)(a) of the Income Tax Act so that those contributions made to the Institute are exempt U/s 80(G) of the IT Act.

Founders
The Institute's conception, formation and present standing owes a great deal to its Founders, Dr.P.V.Sanker Narayan and Dr.Sarada Subrahmanyam. They have laid a strong foundation upon which the present can build a foreseeable future for Magnetobiology in India. The founders have left no stone unturned to establish this center as the first and probably the only center of its kind in the whole of East-Asia. The Institute's research record and recognitions bears testimony to their vision and efforts.
